ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Jodhpur is one of the 11 ICAR-ATARIs formerly known as Zonal Project Directorates (ZPDs) functioning under Division of Agricultural Extension. ICAR has established a vast network of KVKs all over the country under the administrative control of various ICAR institutes, State Agricultural Universities (SAUs), State Department of Agriculture, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and other institutes for implementing the central governmental projects/schemes. In the Zone, 7 Agricultural Technology Information Centres (ATICs) are working for delivering the “Single Window” delivery system. Since, Zonal Project Directorate has been elevated as ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), the mandates of ICAR-ATARI has also been changed where socio-economic research is one of the integral components.

The first “Krishi Vigyan Kendra” was sanctioned to the university by ICAR, New Delhi at Chak-27- NTR, Nohar (Hunumangarh) on 100% financing basis. From the available land of LRS, Nohar 81 bighas land was allotted for the KVK by the University. The KVK started its functioning on 9th April, 2012. The KVK is actively engaged in on farm trials, front line demonstrations, on campus and off campus farmers and farm women trainings and other extension activities such as field day, kisan mela, kisan gosthi, exhibition, method and result demonstrations, scientific visit to farmers field, exposure visit of farmers, animal health camps and farm science club and self help groups conveners meet etc. The KVK is very helpful for transfer of new techniques and technology to the farmers and livestock owners. The University is marching ahead to develop the KVK to be a model KVK where provisions will be made to provide all the facilities to the farmers.

However, presently the Krishi Vigyan Kendra is running in the Office Building of Executive Engineer, RWSRP Division, Nohar as temporary arrangement the funds for building and other capital works are awaited.

Hanumangarh district is having seven Tehsils namely- Sangaria, Tibi, Pillibanga, Hanumangarh, Nohar, Bhadra and Rawatsar. Out of these three Tehsils Viz. Nohar, Bhadra and Rawatsar are being under the jurisdiction of this Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nohar, Hanumangarh II.

  • Mamdates of KVK

  • Conducting “On Farm Testing” (OFT) for identifying Technologies in terms of location specific sustainable land use systems.
  • Organizing short and long term training courses in agriculture and allied disciplines for the farmers and rural youths with emphasis on “Learning by doing” for higher production on farms and generating self-employment.
  • Organizing Frontline Demonstrations (FLDs) on various crops to generate production data and feedback information.
  • Organizing training to update the Extension personnel with emerging advances in agricultural research on regular basis.

  • Identifled Thrust Areas

    1. To increase the productivity of major field crops and encouraging farmers for sustainable agriculture through natural farming system using compost vermi compost, FYM and moisture conservation technology.
    2. Encouraging farmers for seed production to obtain good quality seed.
    3. To popularize Integrated pest Management especial stress on seed treatment and motivate the farmers, for income generation through Bee- keeping and mushroom cultivation.
    4. To motivate the farmers , youths and farm women for dairy, poultry and pig farming for self employment and income generation.
    5. To extend the area under fruit orchards and techniques un nursery raising and its proper management.
    6. Introducing employment generation activities for farm women like fruit and vegetable preservation, tailoring, embroidery, soft toys making etc.
    7. To motivate the farmers for fish farming, fish seed production and ornamental fish culture.
    8. Motivate the farmers to check the soil & water sample to know about nutritional value of soils.

    Achievements of KVK

    Krishi Vigyan Kendra conducted 288 Frontline demonstrations (FLD) on various crops like- Cluster bean (HG-2-20), Mustard (RGN-13, RGN-298 & RGN-229), Moong (IPM-02-3 & Satya), Gram (GNG-1581), Wheat (Raj. 4037), Barley (RD-2035), Oat (Kent) & Lucerne (Anmol) and 100 other enterprises like- Cow buffalo, goats and fish productivity improvement etc.

    To 8 on Farm Trails (OFT) have also been conducted on Nematode management, Effect of sulphur levels, Aphid management performance etc.

    In respect with trainings Krishi Vigyan Kendra trained total number of 1745 farmers, farm women and rural youth under on- campus, off-campus and sponsored training and programmes during 2012 to 2015 by conducting 68 farmers & farm women trainings and 8 trainings for rural youth under on-campus and off-campus trainings programmes.

    In all Krishi Vigyan Kendra organized 76 Trainings programmes, 8 On farm Trail, 388 Frontline demonstrations, 15 field days, 14 kisan gosthies, 18 Animal campus, 235 Scientists visits to farmer fields, 575 Farmer visits to KVK, 03 Exhibition, 215 Lectures delivered as resource persons, 62 News paper coverage, 500 Telephone help line, 01 farmers tour, 07 Leaflets & folders and 15 popular articles published, 01 special day (Congress grass unnamulan divas) and 01 Technology Week (Livestock Week Awareness Programme) and these activities many farmers as beneficiaries.

    The Krishi Vigyan Kendra celebrate and conduct awareness programme on International Yoga day (21st June), World food day (16th October), World soil day celebration (5th December) during each year. Also conduct two preseasonal training programme, SAC meeting and other awareness programme for farmers, Farm women and Rural youth during every year.
